This is my first weekly bowls report for 2014 and I’d like to wish all my readers a Happy New Year.
Let’s hope there is plenty of bowls on everyone’s calendar!
Many of the clubs used the Christmas/New Year break for maintenance of their greens, but all clubs now report that they’re ready for action.
So drop in to your local club, check with the games director and pick up your club calendar.
Yarraman news:
Yarraman have started their year, and Thursday night bowls are now a fixture on the calendar.
It’s all very social and casual dress is welcome. The action begins with a sausage sizzle at 5:30pm and bowls start at 6:00pm.(the club can set you up with bowls if you nee them).
And here’s a date claimer:
Thursday 20 February will be Pub Day – 2 games, 13 ends – with two for an end and four for a win. This will be a Nominated Open Fours event and the bowls get rolling at 11:30am
Kingaroy got their act into gear early in this year.
Their first trophy day was held on Thursday 9th, and players have been on the green almost every day since then.
On the first Thursday in social bowls (conditions of play were 6 points for a win and 1 point per end):
- Winners: Hec Read, David Clapperton and Val Jepperson 19pts def David Clinker, Irene Smith and Col Kratzmann 8 pts.
- Runners-Up on count back were David Woods, Filipe Munoz and Ray MacLaren 18pts def Barry O’Brien, Merv Anderson and Alan Rogerson 9pts
And on Sunday – social bowls again, with .conditions of play 6 points for a win and 1 point per end, the winners were Des Richards, Wanda Carland and Beryl Woods 20pts who defeated Dave Woods, Irene Smith and Alan Irwin 7pts.
Toogoolawah tales:
Toogoolawah get the New Year off to a great start with Pub Day last Tuesday.
There was a great roll-up and it’s worth running down the list of teams:

In social bowls at Tansey last Friday night:
- Winning team was Alex Barsby, Dave Malpas and Donnie Moore with a score of 13
- Runners up (and they were close) were Russell Heness and Cheryl Lorkin with a score of 12
Next date on the green is Friday night bowls on 7th February. There’ll be a BBQ at 6:00pm and bowls at 7:00pm.
Final note:
Kilcoy are having their AGM on Sunday, 19th January.
Their next social day of play will be next Tuesday: 9.00am for a 9.30am start.
