Southern Queensland Country Tourism is calling on anyone with an interest in tourism in the Southern Queensland Country region to take part in a series of industry think tanks that will help shape the region’s tourism future.
SQCT CEO Mary-Clare Power said the think tanks would provide an opportunity for everyone to have input into the Destination Tourism Plan (DTP) for Southern Queensland Country.
“Destination Tourism Planning is the next evolution of destination management and will provide the definitive direction for tourism in Southern Queensland Country towards 2020, highlighting the resources required to create a sustainable and competitive tourism destination,” she said.
“As a result of this planning process we also expect to put in place the foundations that will guide our industry for the next 20 years.
“With the Queensland Government shifting the emphasis for tourism decision-making on to the state’s destinations, each regional tourism body across Queensland needs to articulate a clear direction for tourism that aims to meet the state’s tourism growth targets while recognising local challenges and opportunities.
“Each destination across the State has its own unique tourism experiences and assets, with distinct development, marketing and management needs; and therefore each needs its own clear direction. That is the role of the DTP.”
The think tank for the South Burnett region will be held on Monday, February 10, at a venue and location to be advised.
