The Kingaroy Junior Redbacks Soccer Club will be starring in their own mini-TV special as part of their prize in the Hyundai “Goals For Grassroots” program.
The club has been selected as one of the program’s grant recipients for 2014 so a segment on them will be aired on FoxSports, SBS and through Hyundai’s social media channels.
Cameraman Andy Doherty, from Melbourne, visited Kingaroy today to shoot video of the young players in action for the segment.
The Hyundai Motor Company Australia has donated almost $400,000 since 2007 through the “Goals For Grassroots” program to junior football clubs across Australia.
The competition is also tied in with Australia’s national football competition, the Hyundai A-League.
During each round of the season, one match is designated as a “Goals for Grassroots” game. In this match, a lucky junior club will be issued with 20 tickets to the game and receive a guaranteed $1000 donation plus an extra $1000 for every goal that the home team scores (up to maximum of $10,000 per game).
The Kingaroy Junior Redbacks’ A-League game is between the Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United and will be played at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on March 9.
Club president Thomas Carroll said the club would probably use the match tickets as part of a promo for club members but final details were yet to be worked out.
He said the club was looking forward to another big year, particularly as it coincided with the World Cup.
Last season there were 304 juniors signed up.
Sign-on day for the 2014 season will be held on February 8.
