It’s a long way from the streets of inner-city Brisbane – where assaults (and even murder) are common fare – to the quiet country roads of Kumbia.
But’s the path that Kumbia’s new police Officer-in-Charge Adam Entwistle has taken.
Senior-Constable Entwistle, 38, has served with the Brisbane City CIB for the past six years, and since 2011 has worked as a Detective.
The last major case he was involved with was as part of the team investigating the bashing murder of Korean student Eunji Ban, a death which shocked Brisbane residents because of its apparent random nature. Alex Reuben McEwan, 19, from Spring Hill, has been arrested and charged with the murder.
But that’s all behind Snr-Const Entwistle now that he’s back in uniform and settling down into the rhythms of country policing.
He admits the lifestyle is going to be different, and that’s exactly what he wants.
Snr-Const Entwistle and his wife – who was an executive assistant at a large property firm – hope the lifestyle change will allow them more time to concentrate on raising their two small boys. The six-year-old will be enrolled at Kumbia State School next year while the three-year-old will go to Kumbia Kindy.
But won’t he be bored?
“I have two young boys, I haven’t time to be bored,” he told southburnett.com.au today.
Snr-Const Entwistle started in his new role at Kumbia last Thursday.
Originally from Woy Woy on the NSW Central Coast, he didn’t always want to be a police officer.
He worked in retail for a while and then travelled overseas to work. While in the United Kingdom, he met his future wife, who came from Toowoomba.
Back in Australia, he started thinking about career choices and began studying at the Police Academy at Oxley. He graduated as a police officer in 2002.
His career has taken a new twist with his appointment to Kumbia.
And his focus now? Road safety! Snr-Const Entwistle has seen enough death and violence without coming up against it on South Burnett roads so he’s asking local residents to slow down, drive carefully and watch out for the Fatal Five over the Christmas break.
