December 21, 2013

This is my last column for 2013 – and what a year it’s been.

I have some great news to wind up this year’s coverage.

And it comes from Goomeri:

Patron and Patroness Day at Goomeri last Sunday was a huge success.

Forty-eight players helped Hazel and Bevan Sippel celebrate their term as Patron and Patroness. They included players from Toogoom at Hervey Bay, Binjour and Durong.

Kilkivan boosted the attendance of Burnett district clubs.

The competition was over two games of eighteen ends, with points for wins and winning margins.

The Murgon team of Ray Frahm, Peter Hawula, Ray Currie and Alan Mitchell scooped the pool with two wins plus 16.

Runners-up were the triples team – Glen Maudsley, Fay Stimpson and Irene Macarthur – with 2 wins plus 15.

The trophy for the highest score on the last round went to the Kilkivan four – Michael Barkle, Scott Hewson, Carol and John Mitchell.

They racked up 35 points.

The next Pub Day will be on February 12, 2014.

Toogoolawah news:

Pub days are always popular competitions but particularly so at Toogoolawah, where a beautiful green and great playing conditions set the conditions for the club’s last pub day for 2013.

Seven rinks were running and teams from Ipswich, Gatton, Harlin, Lowood. Benarkin, Blackbutt and Yarraman’s Eskapees (ie both the Exchange and Club Hotel).

  • Overall winner – on a countback – was Alan Welland from Lowood.
  • Overall runner-up – Andy Box

Blackbutt were the 1st round winner, with Clayton Foster bowling for the Harlin Pub.

2nd round winner was Daph Stewart from Yarraman.

Bowlers looking for a game over the holidays could check out Toogoolawah – there’s no work required on their green and social bowls run on Thursdays at 5:30pm.

Their next Pub Day will be on January 14, 2014 – so put that one in your diary
