South Burnett Regional Council staff and residents have joined together to help some needy local families at Christmas.
Throughout December, South Burnett Regional Council collected non-perishable food and gift vouchers to support the Salvation Army Christmas campaign “Give Hope This Christmas & Help Change Lives”.
“The community and Council’s staff have really supported this cause. I congratulate all for getting behind the Salvation Army’s appeal again this year,” South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.
“The Salvation Army and many of our other charitable organisations do a fantastic job to ensure a little bit of hope is given to families in need.
“The amount of donations that have been collected this year shows the South Burnett’s community spirit.
“We have had a tough year with recovering from the floods in January and February, yet still our community pulls together to help each other.”
Each year the Salvation Army seeks assistance by asking for donations of non-perishable food items. This includes plum puddings, Christmas cakes, tins of ham, canned vegetables and packet foods. These items will be distributed to local families and individuals who are in need of assistance.
Council’s Community and Cultural Services co-ordinator Michael Hunter said the Salvos and other charities in the region would still happily accept donations after Christmas to help families who are in need of ongoing assistance.
Donations can be dropped into the Salvation Army Office at 44 Alford Street, Kingaroy, over the Christmas and New Year break.
