November 30, 2013

It’s almost December and it’s definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas around the South Burnett.

On Friday, the Wondai Diggers Club hosted two very special Christmas break-ups.

The Barambah social group of the Legacy Club of Fraser Coast and Country Burnett held their Christmas lunch in one room, while the Kingaroy Laurel Club held its Christmas break-up just across the building.

The Laurel Club ladies are a social club made up of widows of veterans and ex-servicemen.

Barambah Legacy members meet monthly for social outings, ranging from a simple cup of tea and a chat to bus trips. The group has members in Murgon, Wondai, Proston, Kilkivan and Goomeri, all of whom have suffered the loss of a spouse or parent during or after their defence force service.

In Kingaroy, South Burnett CTC held its annual Staff and Family Christmas Party at the South Burnett Enterprise Centre.

And this weekend, there’s a sackful of festive events including the Nanango Christmas Tree Festival, the Blackbutt Christmas Festival, the South Burnett Chorale’s “A Musical Christmas Pudding”, the Kingaroy Community Christmas Carols and the Nanango Community Christmas Carols.

Congratulations Neil!

The Christmas gatherings at Wondai were also an opportunity to congratulate Wondai RSL sub-branch president – and Wondai Diggers Club manager – Neil Burrows.

Neil was presented with a Meritorious Medal last month by the Returned and Services League of Australia, the top award the organisation can give out.

He has clocked up 25 years of continuous service to the RSL, and has been involved with the organisation for 32 years.  He has worked at the Wondai Diggers Club for more than 25 years.

South Burnett CTC

South Burnett CTC held a special Christmas Party for staff members and their families in Kingaroy this afternoon …. complete with popcorn, fairy floss, hot chips, drinks, a jumping castle and, of course, Santa.

There were also games for the more energetic adults … including a tug-o-war, sponge fights, juggling sticks and hoops.

The annual event is an opportunity for frontline CTC staff to “let their hair down” with their families and have a bit of  fun.
