Murgon GP Dr Graham McAllister has been named as Innovative Health Professional Of The Year by Darling Downs South West Queensland (DDSWQ) Medicare Local.

Dr McAllister and his Murgon Family Medical Practice was one of the top finalists in DDSWQ’s inaugural Primary Health Care Awards, which were announced in Toowoomba at a gala ceremony last week.

TV presenter Dr Andrew Rochford was a special guest at the awards night and announced the prize winners.

DDSWQ CEO Andrew Harvey said that the Awards were established to recognise leaders and innovators in primary health care across the Darling Downs, South Burnett and south-west Queensland.

He said that DDSWQ were delighted to have received outstanding nominations for all six of the awards categories.

“All nominations were worthy of an award, which is an indication of the high standard of work that is being done across our region to keep people healthy and well,” he said.

The nominees in each category (winners are shown with an asterisk) were:

Innovative Community Health Award

  • Goondiwindi Healthy Living Program*
  • Toowoomba Hospital Foundation
  • Maranoa Health Enhancement Program

General Practice Support Team of the Year

eHealth Innovation Award

  • GP’s on Curzon, Toowoomba*
  • Tara Medical Centre
  • Bridge Street Medical Practice, Toowoomba

Each of the winners will receive a trophy and certificate as well as a $1000 contribution towards ongoing professional development.
