A 22-year-old man arrested at a house in Haly Street, Kingaroy, on Friday morning has been charged with a string of offences, including assault occasioning bodily harm and deprivation of liberty.

The incident allegedly involved the use of an illegal taser.

Police will allege Richard John Wortley was involved in an altercation with a woman on Thursday.

He was refused bail when he appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon.

Wortley is also charged with possessing a restricted weapon, stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, evading police, disqualified driving and failing to dispose of a syringe.

The charges were adjourned to November 28 for mention.

Also on Friday, Kingaroy police arrested a 20-year-old man on a “return to prison” warrant after he allegedly breached his parole conditions.

The man, who was arrested at a Prince Street address, has also been charged with obstructing police, drug offences and a number of traffic-related matters.

Kingaroy police were kept busy on Friday night with a series of unrelated incidents:

At 10:30pm, they were called to a disturbance happening at a house in Nolan Street. A 46-year-old man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm after an incident with another man.

At midnight, police were called to a disturbance in Avocado Crescent. An 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with public nuisance.

At 1:30am, they were called to yet another disturbance, this time in Bridgeman Parade. A 22-year-old man was charged with public nuisance.

And the police work continued on Saturday … 

On Saturday morning, Kingaroy police  searched a residence in Albert Street. A 24-year-old man has been issued with a notice to appear for possessing drugs.

On Saturday afternoon, police attended a house in Alford Street on multiple occasions. After being called back again, they arrested a 37-year-old woman and charged her with misuse of the 000 emergency telephone system.

At 7:00pm, police intercepted a vehicle in William Street, Kingaroy. The 26-year-old driver has been charged with unlicensed driving and driving while suspended.

At midnight, a 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with public nuisance after police intercepted a group of youths on Youngman Street, Kingaroy.

A 3:00pm on Sunday, a 28-year-old Murgon man was located in Kingaroy and issued with a notice to appear in court on a shop stealing charge from a Murgon chemist.

The Kingaroy industrial unit in Pound Street formerly used as a clubhouse by the Rebels motorcycle club – named in a list of prohibited premises by the State Government under recent legislation – is now closed.

Kingaroy Police officer -in-charge Senior Sergeant Duane Frank said the group had been leasing the premises for many years but this was no longer the case and it had reverted to its owner.

Under the legislation, any members of the Rebels or their associates found near the building would have been charged with an offence.
