The State Government has announced another $566,000 in “Betterment” funding has been allocated to repair South Burnett roads.
The joint State-Federal funding will see work done on two local roads:
- Kumbia-Brooklands Road – $390,949 – Construction of three 200mm concrete floodways each with 150mm concrete aprons to increase batter protection and reduce the risk of washout and scouring damage to the approaches
- Aerodrome Road (Kingaroy) – $174,733 – Replacement of existing bitumen floodway with a concrete floodway, concrete aprons and cement stabilised approaches to reduce washout and scouring.
Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington welcomed the funding.
She said the announcement had brought the total funding for the South Burnett through the Betterment Fund program to more than $2.5 million.
“The funding from our State Government just keeps flowing for the South Burnett,” she said.
“Last week we had the major $10 million announcement for the Kingaroy Waste Water Treatment Plant and this week another quarter of a million for our roads.
“It shows that the State Government is listening and really aware of the need to improve our regional infrastructure.
“The Betterment fund is achieving its objectives of allowing local Councils to not only fix flood damaged roads but to rebuild them to withstand future flooding events and make our region more resilient.”
Other local projects which have been funded under the Betterment Fund are:
- River Road, Kingaroy – $517,870
- Mondure-Wheatlands Road, Mondure – $181,926
- Pound Street, Kingaroy – $498,000
- Geritz Road, Kingaroy – $629,000
- Heading Road, Sunny Nook – $395,600
