Murgon and Wondai GP Dr Graham McAllister has been named as a finalist in the inaugural Darling Downs South West Queensland Medicare Local Primary Health Care awards.

DDSWQ Medicare Local CEO Andrew Harvey said the awards were established to recognise leaders and innovators in primary health care across the Darling Downs, South Burnett and south-west Queensland.

“We are delighted to have received outstanding nominations for all six categories that cover Innovative Health Professionals, Practice Support teams, Primary Health Organisations, Community Health and eHealth,” Mr Harvey said.

“All nominations were worthy of an award, which is an indication of the high standard of work that is being done across our region to keep people healthy and well.”

Dr McAllister has been named in the “Innovative Health Professional of the Year” category. He will be competing against Amanda Bell, from the HealthyU Program at Chinchilla and Dr Leith Geisel (Allora Medical Practice).

The winners from each category will be announced at the Awards Gala evening on November 9, hosted by special guest Dr Andrew Rochford from Channel 10’s ‘The Project’.

“Each of the winners will receive a trophy and certificate as well as a $1000 contribution towards ongoing professional development,” Mr Harvey said.
