Fritz Kutzer, from Kingaroy Butchery, with some of his trophies from 2011 and 2012 … and his award-winning wursts

October 23, 2013

It won’t be the wurst way to spend Saturday night … in fact,  the World Wide Bay Wurst Off  at Wondai Town Hall could be a tasty treat for the whole family.

This is the third annual wurst competition organised as a fundraiser by the  Karate Union of Australia.

Door open at at 6:30pm and there’ll be a licensed bar, nibblies, snacks and tasty treats, including  wurst tastings.

The judging panel includes Jason Ford and Dave Nugent from CROW-FM.

Jason said many of the region’s butchers have entered and about two dozen varieties of wurst will be judged.

Mundubbera Butchering Co has taken out the Grand Champion award for the past two years and will be returning with the hope of taking a hat-trick.

But the competition will be fierce.

Fritz Kutzer from Kingaroy Butchery won three categories last year – and two in 2011 – and would desperately love to take out the Grand Champions trophy.

“I’m excited that this competition continues to grow each year, and it’s now become a mainstay on the South Burnett’s events calender,” Jason said.

Money raised from ticket sales will help to train and send members of the Karate Union of Australia to various tournaments.
