About 500 pigs have died in a fire that broke out at a piggery on the Mundubbera-Durong Road just before noon today.
At the peak of the incident, 12 fire crews – both urban and rural – were fighting the large fire in a 100m x 200m shed.
At 5:00pm, just three crews were left on site monitoring the smouldering remains.
The blaze created a large smoke hazard in the area which prompted a warning from police to local residents to keep their doors and windows closed.
The roof of the building reportedly collapsed during the fire.
All workers at the piggery have been accounted for.
