Visitors to the BP Dam Inland Family Fishing Classic at Yallakool Tourist Park this October long weekend are in for a special treat.
On Saturday, October 5 the Classic’s first-ever “Murris Making Music” concert will be held under the stars on the foreshores of the Bjelke-Petersen Dam between 6:00pm and 9:30pm.
This family concert will feature the South Burnett’s favourite indigenous country-rock band Muddy Flats; Deadly award-winner John Corowa from Hervey Bay; Cherbourg’s own Junior Wakka Wakka Dancers; and several other local performers.
And – best of all – it’s absolutely free.
All you need to bring along is your own chair or blanket.
The concert is being jointly sponsored by ACICC (the Aboriginal Community Interest Consultative Committee) and the Stepping Black Indigenous Corporation Australia.
It will be the first time a concert like this has ever been held at Yallakool.
And it represents a rare opportunity to hear and see some of the South Burnett’s best indigenous musicians performing live in concert.
The dam itself will be packed with thousands of people taking part in the annual Inland Family Fishing Classic, which runs from dawn on Saturday through to the final weigh-ins on Sunday morning.
But the concert is open to anyone who’d like to take the short drive from Murgon down to the Dam, whether they’re taking part in the Classic or not.
Parking is free and there will be on-site catering as well.
