Host with the most: Cranes winemaker Bernie Cooper at the barbecue

South Burnett and Cherbourg On ShowSeptember 17, 2013

Some people say the long, lazy lunch died in the 1990s. And that may be true – but only in the cities.

In the South Burnett, the long, lazy lunch proudly lives on.

And during the South Burnett-Cherbourg On Show weekend, you can relive one if your idea of a really relaxing weekend is having a long lazy barbecue with friends (and zero washing up afterwards!)

On Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6, Cranes Winery will be hosting the ultimate in relaxed barbecues at their recently-expanded cellar door at Booie, at small mountain range located 9km north-east of Kingaroy.

Between 10:00am and 4:00pm on both days, Cranes will be firing up the barbecues for their annual Big Booie BBQ and cooking gourmet Barkers Creek pork burgers and sausages for the kids, along with hand-made condiments produced from local ingredients, while guests lean back and take in the winery’s sweeping views across the rich red and black soil farmlands east of Kingaroy..

There’ll also be live and recorded music throughout the day, as well as Crane’s award-winning wines and great mixed platters.

Cranes’ margaritas and soft drinks will also be availble for those who prefer non-wine options – and admission is completely free (though no BYO food or drinks are allowed).

Earlier this year Cranes added a large, all-weather extension to their cellar door, so the Big Booie BBQ will run rain or shine.

But if it’s sunny and you’d like to picnic on the lawns, you’re very welcome to do so providing you bring along your own blankets or chairs, hats or umbrellas.

Why? Because the winery’s own chairs, tables and under-cover seating will likely be full.

And if you want to stay on-site or nearby after the party winds down, you can either book a stay in the winery’s on-site B&B or at Deshon’s Retreat (located next door to the winery) if Cranes is full.

Crane Winery’s Big Booie BBQ was well attended last year; this year it will run on Saturday and Sunday, October 5-6
