In ancient times, celebrations were held all across the world to mark the departure of Winter and the arrival of Spring.
And this is a tradition that seems to be continuing in the South Burnett which now holds two big fetes every year which mark the same thing.
Last Saturday – on the final day of Winter – Kingaroy’s Anglican Church held its annual fete in the church grounds in Alford Street.
While numbers were slightly down on last year, Fr Tony Swansson said he was very pleased with the turnout and everyone appeared to be having a good time.
And this Friday, September 6, attention will switch to Murgon when St Joseph’s School in Angel Avenue holds its own annual School Fete from 5:30pm.
The fete is a popular fundraiser for the school.
Last year it drew more than 350 people and this year the school hopes for even more.
The fete will feature performances by students from all grades as well as a wide range of family entertainment including laser skirmish, a Haunted House, Mr Squirt, a jumping castle, a merry-go-round and putt putt golf.
South Burnett band Bruzz will also be on hand to provide live entertainment.
