The South Burnett PCYC at Murgon has been successful in a grant application aimed at improving the health of Aboriginal people living in the local area.
One-off grants were made available by Darling Downs South West Queensland Medicare Local under the “Closing the Gap in Indigenous Health Outcomes Community Grants Program 2013” to contribute to one or more of the following outcomes for Aboriginal communities:
- Increase the overall health of the population
- Improve access to culturally sensitive primary care and social support services, and
- Improve the management of diabetes, cancer, chronic renal disease, cardiovascular disease and chronic respiratory disease
The South Burnett PCYC plans to deliver healthy lifestyle education, support and physical activity programs for the broader community and those who suffer from or at risk of chronic disease in Cherbourg.
