Men will spend hours talking about sport, cars, women, fishing … even cattle. But health? It’s just a bloke thing …
The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation and Darling Downs South West Queensland Medicare Local understood this so they combined a couple of “blokey” things together – a barbecue, beer and rugby league – to attract about 100 local men to a health roadshow in Kingaroy on Wednesday night.
As well as getting an update on the top health issues facing men – cardiovascular disease, prostate cancer, diabetes, smoking and mental health – they also had the the opportunity to chat with former NRL and State of Origin player Colin Scott.
Scott played played for the Maroons from 1979 to 1987 and was also part of the Broncos’ squad in 1988.
The information night was held outside Sunshine Mitre 10.
