Kingaroy always seems to turn something on for the gallery; last weekend (August 17), it was the Men’s “B” Grade Singles Championships.

The final was a nail-biter – Bob Robinson versus Malcolm Macleod.

Both deserved their spot in the final – both scoring good wins in the quarter-final and semis

Bob downed Barry O’Brien 26-16 and Peter Neilsen 25-20.

Malcolm won his quarter-final against Alan Rogerson 25-22 and cruised away in his semi against Merv Anderson 26-6

The final was a keenly fought contest. The winner was decided by the first player to score 25.

It was 5 all after 4 ends but then Robinson skipped away leading 17-7 after 10 ends. Macleod fought back to level 18 all at 16 ends.

The ends continued to be tight with the lead changing hands until it was 22 all after 22 ends.

Robinson took the next mat with a single. He could see a light at the end of the tunnel and in the next game, with some beautiful bowling, moved the jack a short distance to give himself three and take the title 26 to 23.
