The Glencoe Rural Fire Brigade at Durong is one of 13 Queensland groups who will receive support from the 2013 NRMA Community Grants program.
The brigade will use the funding to purchase a motorised electric hose reel, hose and fittings to enhance its emergency response capacity.
In its grant application, the Glencoe brigade noted that manual hose reels can become very heavy and difficult for fire fighters after several hours of rolling metres of hose on and off the reel, particularly for older members of the brigade.
The electric reel will enable fire fighters to quickly move toward another section as fire surges forward.
NRMA Insurance spokesperson Mariana Cidade said the program were about rewarding ideas that make a real-world difference to communities.
Since it was launched in 2003, the program has invested more than $5.8 million into more than 1400 projects nationally to help make communities safer and more sustainable.
