Nanango defeated Kingaroy in a close game in U12s; at half-time the scores were locked 12-all

August 5, 2013

The South Burnett Junior Rugby League will be testing a new trial format for junior games this weekend with all matches scheduled to be played at T.J. O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy.

A proposal for 2014 is that all junior rugby league games – from U6s through to U16s – be played at the one ground, much like what occurs with South Burnett junior soccer.

A partial trial occurred last Saturday with most of the junior games played at Nanango as part of the Stags’ centenary round, but this weekend will be the first full trial with all junior teams an action.

SBJRL Secretary Lisa Weir said whether the format was used next year would depend on feedback from the clubs.

“I’m not sure what the outcome will be, it might be too big to handle, it might put too much pressure on volunteers – we will have to wait for the report back from the clubs,” she said.
