A funeral service was held in Kingaroy on Friday for Tom Hauritz, a well-known South Burnett resident and the oldest member of the Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-Branch.
Mr Hauritz joined the Citizen Military Forces in 1940 and fought in New Guinea (1943-44) and Bougainville (1944-45) during World War II, serving with the 47th Battalion (Wide Bay Regiment).
He was born on August 5, 1917.
Prior to the war he worked at the Kingaroy Butter Factory, following in the footsteps of his father who also worked there.
For most of his life, Mr Hauritz lived in Haly Street, Kingaroy, but in recent years was a resident at Orana.
He died on July 24 at age 95.
