The Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-Branch’s plan to erect a statue of a digger to mark the centenary of the Gallipoli landing in 2015 received a boost today with news that a funding application had been successful.

Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott said a $4000 grant to the sub-branch had been approved to erect a soldier statue at the Kingaroy War Memorial.

The funding was under the Federal Government’s “Saluting Their Service” commemorations program.

The Burnett War Museum, located at Kingaroy Airport, was also successful under the program.

“(It) was awarded a $2285 grant to erect four interpretative signage plaques,” Mr Scott said.

“I congratulate the sub-branch, the memorial and the community for their commitment to honouring the local servicemen and women to ensure those who have served and sacrificed will not be forgotten.”
