The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting planned burns within the Wondai area today and tomorrow as part of its annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests.
The fires will be lit in the McEuen and Wondai State Forests and as a result, smoke may be seen in Wondai, Cherbourg and surrounding areas.
A QPWS spokesman said the aim of the burn was to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas within the forest.
This would help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.
