The Durong Community Fun Day has raised more than $500 for the Lindsay family who lost all their possessions in a house fire at West Boondooma in May this year.
The fun day, held last Saturday, was organised by the Durong Green Frogs Girl Guides.
Since the fire, the local community and the South Burnett and Chinchilla communities have donated household furniture, appliances and have found the family new accommodation.
Gordon Lindsay, who is disabled, lives with his 10-year-old daughter Terri and also has older children living in Chinchilla.
Mr Lindsay said he was humbled by the response and the generosity of people, and without them he would be in a very difficult situation.
Families enjoyed a fun-filled day on Saturday with old-fashioned outdoor games, face painting, raffles and prizes.
Lunch consisted of a pig-on-the-spit and other home-cooked fare.
The Queensland Rural Fire Service brought along “L’il Squirt”, which the kids adored.
They also had handouts for adults and children which reinforced fire safety in the community.
QFRS Volunteer Community Educators made it a fun way to teach kids and adults many things about fire safety.
Durong Green Frogs Girl Guides would like to thank Durong South State School P&C, Queensland Fire and Rescue, Durong and Coverty Rural Fire Brigades and all the businesses that donated prizes for the day.
Spokesperson Leeann Stern said she was pleased with the day’s outcome despite having fewer people than expected.
“A relaxing fun day was had by all, which was the main aim of the event,” she said.
