The $150,000 Stage 2 of Wondai’s Village Green project – which aims to transform the centre of town – has received a $60,000 boost from the State Government.
The funding was announced today as part of the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
A condition of funding is that the work must be completed by June 30, 2014.
This is the second recent piece of good news for the project, after a $5000 donation from the Wondai Lions Club last week.
Plans for the Village Green include replacing the railway tracks that bisect Coronation Park with walkways, developing a new 48-hour motorhome parking area, replanting the park in a more open layout, creating an “historical walk” and a grass amphitheatre; and placing barbecues and picnic tables at strategic points around the grounds.
Stage 1 of the project was allocated $100,000 in last year’s Council Budget, and work on the redevelopment began in mid-June.
