Nanango artist Karol Oakley has won a first prize at this year’s Pastel Society of Australia Winter Competition in Brisbane.

The exhibition, which was held at the Royal Queensland Art Society’s Petrie Terrace Gallery last week, attracted more than 100 entrants.

PSA President Penelope Gilbert-Ng said that the awards night was “buzzing” with excited award recipients.

Karol won first prize in the “Still Life” category for her painting of a vase of flowers..

Other recipients included:

  • Tricia Taylor (Yandina) – first in “Landscape” and second in “Still Life”
  • Liz Jordan (Clayfield) – second in “Landscape” and first in “Abstract”
  • Penelope Gilbert-Ng (Runcorn) – second in “Abstract”
  • Margaret Van Maanen (Wynnum) – first in the “Alexandra Awards”
  • Sandi Foreman (Moorooka) – second in the “Alexandra Awards”
  • Carolyn Waite (North Lakes) – first in “Portrait/Figures Animals”
  • Gail Higgens (Manly West) – second in “Portrait/Figures Animals”
