The South Burnett Autism Support Group is urging local residents to go green for a night to help raise funds to improve educational outcomes for children with autism in the South Burnett.

The group’s major annual fundraiser, the 2013 Trivia Night, will be held this Saturday, June 15, from 7:00pm at the Kingaroy Town Hall.

The theme is “green”, so organisers are urging people to come along dressed in their favourite green ensemble, as an animal or “think environmental”.

Trivia Night fundraising co-ordinator Melissa Whitestyles said the money raised would be used to create awareness about autism and to improve the educational opportunities for autistic children, adults and their families in the South Burnett.

“With the generous support of local businesses, we raised $5300 from the 2012 Trivia Night,” Melissa said.

“This is going towards an educational fun group outing to Parrots In Paradise which is a privately owned bird park dedicated to conservation and preservation through education and entertainment.

“Also to Bellingham Maze, which has fun problem-solving activities to suit all ages.

“These outings give autistic children, adults and their families an opportunity they would not normally get the chance to experience.

“Surplus funds will contribute to the ongoing running costs to distribute up-to-date information and support to our members and create awareness in the community.”

Tickets in a multi-draw raffle are being sold in the lead-up to the event and will be drawn on the night with lots of prizes to be won.

“Any donations of either goods or vouchers which can be used as trivia prizes (there will be tables of eight) would be greatly appreciated,” Melissa said.

Supper will be provided at half-time but organisers suggest participants BYO drinks and nibblies for the rest of the night.

Bookings are essential. Cost is $10 per person.
