South Burnett surgeon Dr Russell Milkins was a guest speaker at the Kingaroy Primary Health Care Education Conference last weekend.

The conference was hosted by DDSWQ Medicare Local in partnership with the Kingaroy General Practice Chapter, and was attended by GPs, nurses, health care professionals, medical students and service providers from across the region.

Topics included wound care, an immunisation handbook update, pain management, CPR, radiology, orthopaedic surgery, cardiology, and eHealth.

Other speakers included:

  • Dr Stephen Cox, a Brisbane-based cardiologist
  • Dr Alan Howell, a pain management expert from Toowoomba
  • Dr Sanjay Joshi, an orthopaedic surgeon from Brisbane, and
  • Toowoomba’s Dr Penny Hutchinson, an expert on immunisation

DDSWQ Medicare Local Regional Program Officer (Kingaroy) Margie Hams said the conference had been designed to provide information on a range of current primary health care topics to build knowledge and capacity in the region’s health professionals workforce.

“The weekend had a real healthcare focus and was designed to help health professionals strengthen their knowledge, skills and workplaces,” Margie said.

“Feedback from delegates has been very positive, indicating that the conference content met their needs.”

On Saturday night a number of conference speakers and delegates attended the 2013 Mayoral Charity Gala Ball at Kingaroy Town Hall.
