A six-month project to expand Nanango Country Veterinary Services culminated in an official opening at the business premises in Fitzroy Street on Saturday.
Vet Kathy Webb has extended her business by adding two new consulting rooms, an office / lab area and a new covered area for the hydrobath.
We could say that there’s now room to swing a cat (or dog)!
Kathy has been in Nanango for 25 years and started her own business in 1994 at 61 Fitzroy Street (hence the name at the time, “Fitzroy County Veterinary Surgery”).
Seven years later she shifted up the road to 7 Fitzroy Street, into the old Telecom depot.
This has served her well but it was time for an expansion.
“The new areas are going to be better for clients and staff,” Kathy said.
Cr Barry Green, from the South Burnett Regional Council, cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the extensions. Lutheran pastor Rob Fechner then blessed the building.
Kathy said the work had been completed by local builder Neil Uebergang and she was pleased to be able to say only local plumbers and electricians worked on the job.
She invited all her clients to attend the opening and enjoy a sausage sizzle.
And although it was still a “work” day, with sick and injured animals dropping by, the staff at the surgery joined in the fun.
“I just want to say how supportive and loyal the staff have been through the whole building process,” Kathy said.
Nanango Country Veterinary Services caters for both small pets as well as farm animals, especially horses.
In fact, about 30 per cent of the practice’s patients are large animals.
“I have advanced qualifications in horse medicine and horse dentistry,” Kathy said. “And I am studying towards my Masters in Farm Consultancy through Charles Sturt University.”
Kathy also admits to having a special interest in alpacas.
She and her husband Bruce – well-known in Nanango rugby league circles – have a cattle property just outside Nanango.
