A cheque for $750 was handed over this morning to the Mayor’s Red Earth South Burnett Flood Appeal on behalf of the Madang Rotary Club of Papua New Guinea.
“It’s goes to show that the support our Rotary Club area has given to Papua New Guinea through our Rotary network hasn’t gone unnoticed, and when they saw that we were suffering through the floods, their club generously raised funds for our farmers in need,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.
Cr Kathy Duff said the work and fundraising that Rotary does in Murgon and across the South Burnett is invaluable “and when we need it most their networks extend worldwide”.
Murgon Rotary Club president Rex Shelton handed over the cheque on behalf of the Madang Club this morning, just one day before the Mayor’s Red Earth Flood Appeal concluded.
“We are truly humbled to have received money from the Madang Rotary Club to distribute to our farmers,” Mr Shelton said.
“The Madang Rotary Club is a small club which resides in a small village located on the northern coast of Papua New Guinea.
“We received a total of $1500 from the club and we’ve chosen to distribute half to the Mayor’s Red Earth Flood Appeal and half to the BlazeAid initiative.
“I was personally affected in all three floods that the South Burnett region has experienced in the last few years, and it’s great that both our community and a community from Papua New Guinea can get behind our cause.”
