Reconstruction work on five North Coast Region roads – including the Mugon-Kilcoy Road – will start soon with the awarding of a $17 million construction contract.
Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said Probuild Civil (Qld) Pty Ltd had been awarded the contract after a competitive tender process.
“The focus has been on getting value for money and ensuring we can get the project delivered as efficiently as possible,” Ms Frecklington said.
“Although there was a delay in awarding the contract, work on all roads will still be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.”
Contractors will be onsite in coming weeks and timeframes for construction on each road will be shared with local communities and motorists.
Ms Frecklington said the contract includes reconstruction works on the Murgon-Kilcoy and Esk-Hampton roads.
“The start of work on these roads will be welcome news for local communities and motorists,” she said.
“These works will include earthworks, slope stabilisation and repairs to slips and pavement.
“Reconstruction of these roads will mean all roads damaged in North Coast Region during the 2011 floods will be re-opened to two lanes.
“The enormity and complexity of the reconstruction task has been a major challenge and we are grateful for the patience of the local communities and road users.”
The program of works is being delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements, a joint federal and state initiative.
Under these arrangements, the Australian Government provides 75 per cent of the funding, with 25 per cent from the State Government.
