The State Government is seeking feedback on the Cattle Industry Biosecurity Fund voluntary industry levy, which was put forward after the recent outbreak of BJD in Queensland.
The government says the scheme will provide long-term benefits and support during biosecurity incidents.
The consultation paper outlines the proposed levy rate – between 50-70 cents per head – which would be collected on all cattle transactions in Queensland starting mid-2014.
The consultation paper is available until 5:00pm on June 7 on the Get Involved website
The anonymous survey has two sections with a total of 14 questions:
- Section 1 – Fund and levy operations (Mandatory section)
- Section 2 – Fund participation (Optional section)
The consultation is also available to download from the Biosecurity Queensland website. This can be then filled in, scanned and emailed to cattlefund@daff.qld.gov.au or mailed to Director, Animal Industries, GPO Box 46, Brisbane, 4000
The $5 million Queensland Cattle Industry Biosecurity Fund was launched in January this year to support the cattle industry during disease outbreaks.
The fund includes a $2 million grant and a loan of up to $3 million to be matched dollar-for-dollar by cattle producers through an industry levy.
Producers directly affected by the recent BJD cases can apply for financial support at the end of this month.
A full range of details, including application forms and eligibility criteria, will be on the QRAA website after May 31.
