On a soggy afternoon on Saturday, Gunners defeated Barambah in both First and Second Division.
The women’s game was deferred to Sunday afternoon and the Barambah girls picked up their first win of the season against Gunnettes.
In Second Division, Gunners defeated Barambah 3-1. In just 17 seconds Gunners scored their first through Christian Langford who could not believe his luck when the Barambah defence opened up. This could be the fastest goal ever scored in the history of the competition.
However Barambah did not let their heads drop and in the 17th minute, Brendan Kelly put Barambah back on equal terms.
Four minutes after half-time Gunners Chris O’Rourke put Gunners back into the lead and three minutes after that Christian Langford scored his second to give Gunners a 3-1 win.
In First Division, Gunners defeated Barambah 7-0.
Most of the Barambah players had played in the Second Division game and found it tiring in the wet conditions, but to their credit they never gave up.
Ike Sililat got Gunners on the score board after 14 minutes, followed three minutes later by Ryan Mooney who extended the lead to 2-0.
Gunners were very strong in the midfield, built by the confidence they had in their defence.
In the 24th minute Sam Murray scored from long range and then just before halftime Brody Hatchman added to the score line to give his side a 4-0 lead at the break.
Barambah came out in the second half with an improved game and kept Gunners scoreless until the 75th minute when Anthony Lindholme scored.
In the dying minutes of the game Barambah looked out on their feet. In the 84th minute Sam Murray scored his second and in the 87th minute Ike Sililat also scored his second.
Best for Gunners were Sam Murray, who is having a stellar season so far, Ryan Mooney for his assists and Brendan McCarron who played some great balls out of defence.
Barambah’s best were Chris O’Loughlin, who never gave up trying to get his team back in the game, Joel Sommerfeld and goal keeper Brad Vanderkolk who made some great saves for his team.

Next weekend has been set down for the President’s Cup Finals in Kingaroy so only three finals matches will be played on the weekend.
The format in 2013 has changed from previous years. It is hoped the new format will add more value to the Presidents Cup.
The President’s Cup is between the two top teams in each division calculated after the first two rounds that is teams have played one another twice.
In previous years winners were calculated after the first round and then the finals were integrated into the competition when the teams next met or when agreed upon. The result was also counted on the competition table as a regular match.
Dedicating a separate day for the Cup will lift the profile of the competition and make the day special for all involved.
The matches will be played in Kingaroy on Saturday:
- 1:30pm – 2nd Division – Nanango v Gunners
- 3:30pm – Women – Nanango v Wests
- 5:30pm – 1st Division – Nanango v Gunners
