A 22-year-old Hervey Bay man is in a serious but stable condition after an accident at a Proston motorbike track on Friday.

An AGL Action Helicopter Rescue spokesman said the man was riding with a group of friends when he lost control of his bike and it veered off the course.

He came to rest on an embankment but suffered serious injuries to his head and ankle.

He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Two road ambulances responded to the incident before the AGL Action Rescue Helicopter landed at the scene.

Its intensive care flight paramedic treated and stabilised the man before flying him to Bundaberg Base Hospital.
