“Anzac Day isn’t merely a date or a remote campaign … it’s a spirit. A spirit of self-sacrifice, resourcefulness and friendship.”
Warrant Officer Stuart McGregor’s emotional tribute to the Anzacs was one of the highlights of Wondai’s Anzac Day commemorations.
The Wooroolin Bugle Band led the parade which was packed with schoolchildren and representatives from sporting groups and other community organisations.
Returned service personnel brought up the rear of the procession but were reserved the front row seats at the ceremony held outside Wondai Memorial Hall, which included the reading of the Resolutions, the Ode and the laying of wreaths.
The town had begun the day with a traditional Dawn Service which was followed by a Memorial Service at the Wondai Cemetery’s war graves at 8:00am.
