FLASHBACK: All the topsoil gone … a Silverleaf farm after the Australia Day floods this year

April 24, 2013

The Burnett Mary Regional Group, in conjunction with the Federal Government’s Caring For Our Country program, has organised free half-day, one-on-one consultation sessions for growers impacted by this year’s floods.

The consultation sessions are open to growers in the Stuart River, Barker Creek, Barambah Creek and Boonara Creek sub-catchments.

The sessions will be run by Brisbane consultants CTF Solutions and will cover farm and paddock layout planning, soil management (soil loss and silt deposition), maximising controlled traffic farming to reduce soil loss; and general agronomic advice on soil recovery and soil health.

The consultations are aimed at growers whose cropping country suffered soil loss, scouring and silt deposition during the 2013 floods.

Application forms – obtainable from BMRG’s offices in Wondai – should be returned by May 6 by email or posted to PO Box 181, Wondai, 4606.

Forms can also be dropped off to the Burnett Mary Regional Group offices located in the old courthouse at 32 Bramston Street, Wondai.

Only limited spots are available.
