‘Resoundingly successful” … this is how Nanango Show Society president Les Schloss has described the 104th annual Nanango Show.

“All our gates were up, in fact everything was up,” Les said.

The weather was “brilliant”, he said, and the motorbike stunt show was “just something!”.

“It was our main entertainment and they did a really good job.”

In fact, the bikes were so good they managed to lure some of the crowd away from what is usually the show’s main evening attraction, the bull ride.

“But there was still plenty of fun and action over there in the rodeo ring,” Les said.

The fireworks – sponsored by the Heritage Community Bank – were “brilliant”.

All the usual attractions of the show were also popular … the wood-chopping, post-ripping, equestrian events and sideshow alley.

Pavilion entries were up and farm produce had more space this year after moving into the old poultry shed.

About 125 head were entered into the Prime Beef competition.

The two-day championship dog show was also well-supported.

“The alpaca display wasn’t as big this year because they are having a big show in July,” Les said.

This State alpaca show, to be held at the Nanango Showgrounds, will be combined with a State Dexter cattle show and a display by working dogs.

However, the Booie Spinners were taking the opportunity to demonstrate their craft from farm and fleece to fashion.

Members were spinning recently carded alpaca fleece to create yarn which they were then crafting into wearable fashion.

The last word must go to Les: “It was just a really nice day.”
