Meals on Wheels Kingaroy has hit the highway and is now supplying frozen meal deliveries to Yarraman, Blackbutt, Benarkin and beyond.
“We have expanded our delivery area and services to include frozen meals to clients who live beyond the normal delivery route,” Kingaroy MOW president Keith Campbell said.
“These frozen meals have the same nutritional value as our usual meals. Each frozen meal pack includes soup, main meal and dessert.
“Meals on Wheels were getting requests from a number of frail and aging people who live in rural areas outside of Kingaroy. They want to remain independent and our service ensures this can happen.”
Eligible people can receive a subsidy from Home and Community Care (HACC) for this service.
Deliveries to Blackbutt, Benarkin and Yarraman occur once a week.
“We deliver a week’s worth of meals to Blackbutt, Benarkin and Yarraman. The only difference for rural clients is that we arrange for them to collect the frozen meals from the Meals on Wheels kitchen in Kingaroy,” he said.
“We now have clients who pick up a week’s worth of meals from our Kingaroy kitchen while they are in town doing other business.
“They want a home-style cooked meal. With the new frozen meal packs, clients in rural areas can enjoy the same benefits as those who live closer to the kitchen.”
Meals on Wheels Kingaroy merged with Yarraman Meals on Wheels two years ago when it was necessary to streamline their operation and look for better ways to service their clients.
“The arrangement is working brilliantly,” Mr Campbell said.
“It is thanks to a great group of volunteers in Yarraman and Blackbutt that we are still able to service this area from Kingaroy.
“If you are unable to be a volunteer but want to support this service, Meals on Wheels welcomes donations. We are grateful to the many independent and business donations we receive each year. It is thanks to these we are able to provide this service for the community.”
