The South Burnett’s new LNP Branch has been busy lately … hot on the heels of last week’s visit by Lawrence Springborg, it today hosted a visit and dinner for two Federal pollies.
Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott and Member for Mackellar Bronwyn Bishop were joined by more than 80 people at a fund-raising dinner held at Accents Restaurant in Kingaroy.
Earlier in the day, the pair dropped into the Kingaroy RSL Club to discuss Anzac Day celebrations with the local sub-branch and launch a new Anzac Day information pack.
Veterans’ issues are close to the hearts of both MPs.
Ms Bishop served for many years as Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs while Mr Scott was Veterans’ Affairs Minister from 1996-2001. He also held the portfolio of Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence from 1998-2001.
Since the 2001 election, he has chaired the Defence Sub-Committee.
Mr Scott said Anzac Day packs would soon be arriving in letterboxes throughout the electorate ahead of the April 25 commemorations.
“This is another way of connecting Anzac Day with the community and is part of a build up to the centenary which will be held in 2015,” he said.
The packs feature the story of Anzac plus the order of service and traditional hymns.
“It reinforces the great work our RSL does in the community including going into schools to talk about Anzac Day,” Mr Scott said.
“It reinforces the importance of Anzac Day and that people of our generation have received a great legacy, the gift of freedom, from previous generations.
“Every day I think about the responsibility we have to ensure the knowledge and legacy of the Anzacs continues and strengthens across the nation.”
