Some new volunteers have joined Meals on Wheels Kingaroy, which is boosting the morale of the group as well as all the people they assist with their friendly food service.
“We have had some new volunteers join our organisation which has given us all a spring in our step,” Meals on Wheels president Mr Keith Campbell said.
“Many hands make light work, as the saying goes.
“We were humbled by the response we had to our last volunteer request, but we still need more drivers/deliverers, as well as helpers in the kitchen.
“Meals on Wheels have been very lucky to have a group of volunteers that have been with us long term. Our new helpers are fitting in easily and we are putting together a strong team.”
Meals on Wheels Kingaroy currently services over 80 clients with meals delivered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
“Volunteering is about more than just helping us deliver the cooked food,” Meals on Wheels Kingaroy’s resident chef, Ms Delores Rewald, said.
“Our volunteers make new friends and have a great time mixing with the other volunteers and our clients.
“But we would love more volunteers – men and women. Many people think they need experience or it will take up a lot of time. But some of our volunteers just do a couple of hours each week. Every little bit helps.”
Mr Campbell said Meals on Wheels started in Kingaroy in July 1969.
“Over that time it has prepared and delivered hundreds of thousands of meals to clients in the Kingaroy area.
“Each year we prepare over 15,000 meals, but we would like more clients and we have the capacity to prepare even more meals with our completely renovated kitchen.
“However this would not be possible without the people who have donated their time over the past years and currently. We are grateful for any assistance we can get.
“In fact, the very essence of Meals on Wheels continuing into the future is dependent on obtaining enough volunteers to help in the kitchen as well as deliver prepared meals.
“If you are unable to be a volunteer but want to support this service, Meals on Wheels welcomes donations.
“We really appreciate the many independent and business donations we receive each year. It is thanks to these we are able to provide this service for the community.”
