A man has been airlifted to hospital suffering a severe injury to his foot following an incident at a Wondai sawmill.

The 23-year-old told the AGL Action Rescue Helicopter crew his foot got caught in a metal chain which was connected to machinery in operation.

His foot was severely injured despite wearing safety boots.
