Opening hours at the Wondai and Murgon Waste Transfer Stations will be extended in the near future.

At its monthly meeting on Wednesday, the South Burnett Regional Council decided to call for Expressions Of Interest for caretakers at both facilities.

The caretakers will carry out daily opening and closing of the sites, and attend to any minor general clean up functions.

Once appointed, the SBRC intends to have both tips open from 6:00am to 6:00pm.

At present, each tip’s opening hours are based on the Transfer Stations needing constant supervision.

Waste, Planning and Land Management portfolio leader Cr Cheryl Dalton said moving to unsupervised operations at both sites would not only save the Council money but also provide a service the community had requested.

“This is a great example of Council listening to the community,” she said.

Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said the SBRC would also be seeking feedback from businesses in Wondai and Murgon to assess the feasibility of introducing an honesty system for the identification and payment of commercial disposal fees at both Transfer Stations.

“What we’ll be introducing at these transfer stations is something very similar to what we have operating at Blackbutt right now.

“It’s working well there, so we think it should work just as well elsewhere.”
