March 21, 2013

The names of the nine committee members who will help the South Burnett Regional Council shape the economic and tourism development of the region were released today.

The members of the steering committee for the new South Burnett Directions group are:

  • Barb Madden – Smithfield Feedlot
  • Brett Heading – McCullough Robertson / Clovely Estate
  • Georgie Somerset – Somerset Trading Company
  • Graham Archdall – Burnett Business Centre
  • John Carey – Stanwell Corporation
  • Ken Mills – Ken Mills Toyota
  • Linchon Hawks – Swickers Bacon Factory
  • Maryanne Pidcock – Captains Paddock
  • Richard Fahy – Lutheran Community Care Orana

“Council has been overwhelmed with the calibre of people who applied to become members of South Burnett Directions,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.

“We received over 20 expressions of interest and a final group of nine people were selected.

“We will be having our first meeting on April 4 to orient the committee.

“We will then be ready for the official launch of South Burnett Directions in May.”

The committee, which will be chaired by the Mayor, was selected by Deputy Mayor Keith Campbell, Cathy Davis (President South Burnett Tourism Association), Sandy Towell (Chairman Nanango Arts Network Alliance), Leo Geraghty (President Murgon Business Association) and Rod Steele (President Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce).

“It was a challenging task to sort through the applications. We are very happy with the skills of the Steering Committee,” Cr Campbell said.

He said the skills-based committee would assume a leadership responsibility for the South Burnett.

“Council are looking forward to seeing the projects that are chosen by the South Burnett Directions Committee and their subsequent outcomes,” Cr Campbell said.

SBRC Economic Development Manager Phil Harding said that after the Steering Committee determined projects of regional significance, locally based working groups would be established “to assist with the delivery of project outcomes”.
