A man who lit an unauthorised fire in the Cushnie area in August last year was fined $750 in Murgon Magistrates Court this morning.

Clinton Nicholas Pascoe, from Tewantin, pleaded guilty on March 5 after police withdrew nine similar charges.

Magistrate Mark Bucknall had adjourned sentencing to allow both the defence and prosecution to prepare sentencing submissions.

No conviction was recorded.

A man facing 15 drugs charges – including two counts of trafficking and six of supply – was remanded to May 14 in Murgon Court today.

Ashley Phillip Caves also faces a charge of breaching a bail condition.

No plea has been entered to the charges.

A 35-year-old unlicensed driver who blew .351 when breathtested by police has been fined $1750 and disqualified from driving or obtaining a licence for 24 months.

Magistrate Mark Bucknall said Edward Horton Riley, from Kuranda, had been a danger not only to himself but to everyone else in the vicinity.

“There needs to be a very clear message to the community that the penalty will reflect the seriousness of the offence,” Mr Bucknall said.

A man charged with rape, indecent dealing of a girl under the age of 14, and two counts of incest entered no plea when he appeared in Murgon Court today.

The man, who cannot be named, was remanded on bail to re-appear on April 30.
