The Mayor’s Red Earth South Burnett Flood Appeal has received a massive boost from CROW-FM’s “Radiothon” auction … taking the total so far raised for South Burnett farmers to $35,000.
Sunday’s on-air radio auction raised another $17,500 towards the $50,000 target set by Mayor Cr Wayne Kratzmann at the start of the appeal.
[UPDATE March 12: The total raised from the Radiothon is now $18,000]
The “radiothon” began at 8:00am and ran through to 3:00pm.
Listeners rang the station to bid on items donated by local businesses. Originally there were 112 auction lots but this number increased as more items were donated during the day.
A team of volunteers manned the telephones at the station’s studios in Wondai, including members of the Red Earth Foundation committee, South Burnett councillors and staff, CROW-FM personnel and individuals including Eri Carey, Susan Goodard and Carl Rackemann.
Council’s Communities General Manager Eleanor Sharpe said some callers had also rung in simply to donate money.
Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said it had been a tiring day but “wonderful”.
He thanked all the listeners who rang in to bid as well as the businesses who had donated the items and the volunteers who had helped at the station.
All money raised by the Mayor’s Red Earth South Burnett Flood Appeal will be converted into “South Burnett Dollars” which can only be spent within the South Burnett.
The money will be distributed to South Burnett farmers whose properties were devastated by the Australia Day weekend floods.
NB. The “Radiothon” had originally been planned to be held on March 3 but, ironically, had to be postponed because of more flooding in the region.

Tickets for the Nissan Micra, which is being raffled as part of the appeal, will be available all this week at Kingaroy Shoppingworld.
The Micra, donated by Huston Motors, is worth $15,990. Tickets are $5 each, three for $10 or a book of 10 for $20.
Mayor Kratzmann is looking for volunteers to help sell the tickets. If you can help, phone the Mayor’s office on (07) 4189-9155.
