The Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry has added its voice to the protest surrounding the impending closure of services at the Kingaroy Street post office.
President Rod Steele today wrote to Australia Post Queensland Business Centre Group Area Manager Trish Jager to express the KCCI’s concern:
On behalf of the Kingaroy business community I write to you in relation to the decision made by Australia Post to close the Kingaroy Business Centre and the provision of ongoing postal services in the Kingaroy area.
“The Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce wishes to express its concern over Australia Post abandoning the business community of Kingaroy and the surrounding area at a time when they need support and assistance following the last two years devastating floods and difficult rural times.
“The Kingaroy Business Centre is centrally located in the heart of Kingaroy business precinct, making access by many local businesses to Australia Post services at the Kingaroy Business Centre convenient and low cost.
“Its closure will require businesses to travel from the local business heart to the congested local shopping centre, which will prove difficult and inconvenient to smaller operators.
“As many local residents also use the business centre for their Australia Post services, local businesses will be further disadvantaged by subsequent loss of visitor traffic and associated trade.
“While we recognise that Australia Post has taken action to add additional services in the shopping centre branch, this falls short of providing business customers the convenient and accessible service to which Australia Post are committed.
“Postal and associated services are integral to running a business and for this reason we urge Australia Post to reconsider its decision and keep the Kingaroy Business Centre open.”
A protest against the closure is scheduled to be held near the Kingaroy Street building from 11:00am tomorrow (Friday).
