Dimities Cafe chef (and well-known Wondai garden lover) Graham Mitchell has come up with a unique way to help flood victims in the Bundaberg area … pot plants.
The idea is to pot up garden plants which would be transported to Bundaberg in three or four months time.
An enthusiastic supporter of the project is Wondai resident Kathryn Spencer.
“Eight bags of potting mix have been used already,” she said today.
The pot plants will be given to householders whose gardens have been washed away by the floods.
“Many people would have lost their whole garden, shade houses etc,” she said.
“If each person gave only one or two plants, we could gather a lot.”
The plants will be given to a gardening club in Bundaberg for distribution.
“If anyone in the South Burnett wants to add plants – any sort, flowers, herbs, veggie or fruit – to the load, we’ll find a way to get them there,” Kathryn said.
