February 5, 2013

It’s a long way to travel from New York to Kingaroy just to do your prac work, but that’s exactly what 12 student teachers currently in the South Burnett have done.

The student teachers, from the State University of New York Fredonia, will be based at four schools in Kingaroy over the next five weeks.

SUNY Fredonia is situated near Lake Erie in the western part of New York state, south of Buffalo.

The student teachers, who are all in their last year at college, have been placed at St John’s Lutheran School, St Mary’s Catholic College, Kingaroy State School and Kingaroy State High School.

They will be observing as well as leading lessons.

The group are part of an “study abroad” internship program organised via the University of the Sunshine Coast. The 12 teachers have spent the past four weeks at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

The duo which has been placed at St Mary’s, Shawn Byrns and Madeline Griep, were introduced to the school community at the college’s opening Mass for 2013 this morning.
