Work will begin soon on a $498,880 project to restore Murgon’s water supply to its pre-flood service levels.
“After the 2011 floods the Council put in a temporary arrangement to ensure Murgon continued to be supplied with water,” Water and Waste Water spokesman Cr Barry Green said.
“The current arrangement means that the treatment plant has had to work day and night, which it cannot continue to do indefinitely.
“This decision to restore the intake means it will be returned to the efficient system we had pre-flood.”
Council’s Program Director Flood Restoration Maurie McGuire said the tender for the work attracted eight contractors from Queensland and NSW.
“Council has decided to go with a tender submitted by Kay Associates Pty Ltd,” he said.
“They are a Brisbane-based company with a wide range of experience in civil infrastructure projects including water storage and pumping structures.”
The contract is part of the South Burnett Regional Council’s Flood Restoration Program and includes a submerged intake structure, twin submersible pumps and an electrical switchboard.
“The work is expected to commence in January and be completed by late March, weather permitting,” Cr Green said.
“This work will ensure Murgon residents continue to be supplied with a reliable and safe water supply for years to come.”
